Young people in the organization are often enrolled in soviet style scouting activities and community service projects which act as an optional education and camaraderie-building that provides networking head starts and practical skills in various fields of profession and social cooperation. These opportunities can not only make former Pioneers diligent workers for the state, but also to any other employer that the few Plutonians who get the rare chance to work abroad may be hired by. Children can join the Pioneers at age 8 and can remain in the system until they turn 20.
