Unathi Recent Events

Starting in 2015, the lore team started the living lore project with a goal of making the lore feel alive and dynamic. The status quo of species were changed or reinforced through many story arcs presented through news articles. These storylines played out over many days and several had a direct impact on the station.

Unathi Enter The Bluespace Age (2457)

Technically spacefaring, the Hegemony never had time to build a fleet before the Contact War caused Izweski attention to collapse inwards. But in June of 2457, all of that changed.

The Amnesty Navy

On June 2nd the S’kresti Izweski announced amnesty for all Unathi raiders in the galaxy if they came to Moghes and swore fealty. Several ships accepted the call, and overnight the Unathi had a small, rag-tag fleet that began to grow in size.

One of the first vessels to answer the call, the HMV Cataclysm became a namesame for the later class of super-dreadnaught.

Destruction of the Daedalus and Response

On June 3rd the frigate NMV Daedalus was attacked and destroyed by an Izweski vessel, which rammed it and boarded it to seize the ship and crew before scuttling the ship. In retaliation NanoTrasen completely shut down their infrastructure in Uueoa-Esa space. Within hours Uueoa-Esa had lost the majority of satellites, shuttleports on the surface shut down as the human staff left, and the bluespace gate for the system itself was shut off.

The Douglas Gaffe

On June 4th the Sol Alliance the Prime Minister Michael Douglas held a speech condemning NanoTrasen's response to the Unathi crisis. Immediately after the speech there was a vote of no-confidence, ousting the Prime Minister, his cabinet, paralyzing SolGov and making it hard to respond to the seizure of a NanoTrasen telecommunications satellite in orbit of Moghes.

The Hegemony Demands Ouerea

On June 23rd Hegemon S’kresti Izweski used a seized NanoTrasen t-comm satellite to broadcast his agenda of expansion for the Hegemony, as well as demanding the return of the Ouerean colony back to Unathi officials. Ouera was jointly administered by the Jargon Federation and Sol Alliance at the time, who originally ignored the demands. Jargon even warped four extra frigates in orbit of Ouerea to ensure the safety of its citizens on and around the planet.

The Battle of Ouerea

On July 5th Unathi launched a surprise attack on a Skrell flotilla in orbit of Ouerea. With the element of suprise a Unathi ship managed to ram a Skrell cruiser before they returned fire. After a brief skirmish the Skrell retreated while the Unathi lost 12 ships and captured a Skrellian vessel. The Skrell assembled for crisis talks, but a response was slow to form due to a Dionae leading the response.

Ouerea Rejoins The Hegemony

On July 7th newly elected Alliance Prime Minister Chater announced he was ceding Ouerea to the Izweski, deeming the planet not worth the loss of lives in an actual conflict. This lead the Hegemon to name Tarkart Yiztek as Overlord (King) of the planet.

On July 12th Jargon ceded the planet in exchange for all Skrell prisoners being returned, also not wanting to lose valuable lives and resources to defend Ouerea. The Jargon Federation also cut all ties with the Unathi, taking on a dismissive and cold stance to the Hegemony that would not be repaired until the eventual ascension of Not'Zar Izweski.

Hephaestus Industries was quick to swoop in and fill in the void left by a withdrawn NanoTrasen. On the 19th of July they announced a partnership with the Hegemony, and laid the groundwork for a tightly woven relationship between the Hegemony and the mega-corporation.

The Cataclysm (2458)

On February 13th, 2458, the Hegemony launched the first of its Superdreadnought class vessel: the HMV Cataclysm. The product of extended espionage, reverse-engineering technologies, and stubborn modernization saw the vessel's maiden voyage. The vessel came bristling with weapons meant for close-quarters combat. Lord-Admiral Trazarial Yizarus was appointed to command the vessel and instantly became one of the most influential and powerful Sinta within the Hegemony. Most of the existing Hegemonic navy, which had consisted of levees and barely professional privateers and raiders given amnesty, was scrapped as a new, professional fleet was being prepared. All this build-up was coming at the expense of repairing Moghes, which saw disasters strike in later months and years.

Sabotage, War, and Victory

The day after it's launch, the HMV Cataclysm suffered a critical failure and detonation of its supermatter engine, causing over a hundred deaths and serious damage to the vessel. What was initially believed to be a malfunction was revealed to be an act of sabotage by an agent from the Coalition of Colonies in an act of crowd-funded terrorism. Lord-Admiral Azikyui Yizarus, brother to Lord-Admiral Trazarial Yizarus, was commanding the 1st fleet and boldly declared a punitive expedition would be underway to punish the frontier factions responsible. The first faction to be hit was the minor star system of Youngstown, which was hit by the 1st Fleet while the Cataclysm stayed behind for repairs. Youngstown's militia was no match for a fleet manned by raiders who not-so-long ago were cutting their teeth against frontier forces when they were independent raiders.

Youngstown fell on February 15th and its leaders were arrested and treated with disproportionate brutality, decapitating the Governor when they discovered proof that she was partially responsible for funding the attack against the Cataclysm. These early acts were enacted with indifference from the then-Hegemon, Sk'resti.

With so much focus on building up a fleet of war, the situation for the apocalypse-addled Moghes remained stressed. A major uprising by refugees in the city of Baandr on February 20th had to be brutally put down by local militia and law-enforcement known as the City Watch. The local Lord, Gri'zan, even deployed Breacher Suits, which are functionally bipedal tanks. Hundreds of refugees were killed in the clashes, and hundreds more wounded. Lord Gri'zan justified the violence by claiming the insurrectionists were foreign-born and Guwan.

The violence from these events climaxed on February 29th. In the Māo Star System's sole inhabited planet, Captain Sitraz and his fleet of 15 ships destroyed the single orbital defense station and two patrol vessels before landing on the planet and occupying it. While present there the Captain, a former raider, briefly came under fire in their initial disembarkation into the biodome. After killing the assailant, the Captain unnecessarily committed a massacre by opening fire on a crowd of civilians and then ordering the execution of all who were present and engaging in totalitarian and harsh treatment of other settlements. The final toll came to 582 dead after additional forces arrived and took stock of the violence. This incident seemed to be a turning point in the campaign, as it was a major point of humiliation and dishonor for the Hegemony. The Captain was exiled and hunted by the navy, and by March 15th the fleets were all recalled and the campaign was ended. On March 19th the HMC Cataclysm was re-launched.

The Succession Crisis (2458)

Following the death of Yakt Izweski and the intense grief of the Hegemon, who had already lost his world to an apocalypse of his own making, caused a sudden and unexpected power vacuum when the Hegemon's stress caused a mental break and he fell into a deep coma. Immediately, as is typical in authoritarian regimes, a brutal power struggle took place that would determine the future of the young star nation. Not'zar Izweski came head to head with S'linzar Ickza and rallied their bases, eventually plunging the Hegemony into one of its most harrowing political crisis' in post-Contact War history.

Death of Heir Yakt: Rise of S'linzar

May 6, 2458, the fate of the Hegemony was forever changed. Hegemon Heir Yakt Izweski along with his wife Asalizathi and 4 other passengers were killed in a crash. The pilot had declared an emergency after its engines failed at 45,000 feet from an unknown malfunction. Not'zar Izweski, second oldest child to the Hegemon and his First Wife, became the new legal Heir and successor. However, he would soon be challenged by Lord S'linzar Ickza, the brother-in-law of the late Heir and Son-in-Law of the Hegemon after marrying Rzasul Izweski. Rzasul was arranged to marry Lord Ickza to continue the ancient alliance between the Izweski and Ickza. He personally commanded the Ickza Levee forces, which fought extensively alongside Izweski forces under his late father in the Contact War. Many of their forces were tragically lost, including Slin'zar's father, in the nuclear exchange but the Ickza continued to be a dominant force in the Hegemon military as its leading officers and a sizable portion of the Moghean army.

On May 8th Yakt Izweski and his wife were buried in a state funeral. During the funeral, the Hegemon became inconsolable during the burial of his eldest son. Following the burial the Hegemon resigned himself to his quarters and became comatose and incapable from what would later be diagnosed as severe depression.

In the face of the sudden power vaccuum, which happened before the official naming of a Heir, S'linzar Ickza unilaterally declared himself the Lord-Regent to the incapable Hegemon. Declaring Regency is done by the oldest male heir of a noble when that noble is unable to function and requires someone to act in their name. By declaring Regency Rzasul effectively became the new Hegemon until S'kresti rises from his bedridden state.

Overlord Tarkart Yiztek of Ourea, along with the Lord of Skalamar, S'th, and Ma'ha'rem immediately declared their support for the Lord-Regent S'linzar. With their support, Lord Regent S'linzar Ickza enacted several major reforms of the feudal government. Several key officials within the civil service, navy, and other officials were purged for having been loyalists to the Izweski or to make way for Ickza's own loyalists.

May 11th Lord-Admiral Trazarial Yizarus, war hero of the Frontier Offensive, was also given a letter of retirement while onboard his Cataclysm flagship that ordered him to cede authority of the 1st Fleet. Lord Azicar Ickza would then take control of the Fleet and command the Cataclysm. Lord-Admiral Yizarus refused the demand and declared his fealty to Not'zar Izweski, immediately bringing half the existing navy of the Hegemony into the fold of Not'zar loyalists. Ickza responded by forcefully stripping him of his titles and lands, and threatening him with exile and other punishments. Complicating an already tense situation, Lord-Admiral Azikyui Yizarus, Trazarial's brother and commander of the 2nd Fleet, fell into a state of total radio silence. It refused to respond to any hails from either the loyalist 1st Fleet or the pretender Ickza forces.

By May 19th, Ickza was doubling down his propaganda campaign, attacking Not'zar in the press and then declaring himself the chosen Heir of the comatose Hegemon. The Overlord of Ourea, who previously made no comments onto the legitimacy of either heir, announced his support for Ickza as the new heir, bringing yet another powerful noble into the camp of the pretender. In addition, the 2nd Fleet pledged its support for Ickza and immediately came into confrontation with the 1st Fleet. With powerful nobles falling in line behind the Pretender, and Not'zar's base shrinking by the day, it seemed the only way forward was either the capitulation of the ancient Izweski dynasty to the Ickza or a brutal civil war of survival.

The Twilight Of The Hegemony (2460)

A Central Military: First Generation of Imperial Cadets

Not'zar Izweski is solidifying central control by creating an entire class of officers and warriors who do not come from the high nobility, but the peasant classes. Because of the hostility of the High nobility towards these upstart peasants, these cadets need to be loyal to Not'zar Izwseki and the Izweski dynasty in order to retain their status and even survive. In many cases it is similar to the logic of the Guwan Guard.

The Emergence of the Aut'akh

The arrival of the Aut'akh was a huge shock to Moghes. The High Church, under Unzi, and conservative Lords immediately moved to destroy the heretics that are the Aut'akh. However an expedition made by the Church, with volunteer levys, were soundly defeated in a decisive battle. Not'zar Izweski exploited this to maneuver to decree that the Aut'akh may live. However, he balances this with a continued blockade that prevents the Aut'akh from leaving. Many express confusion as to why Not'zar is siding with the Aut'akh instead of the Church. But Not'zar Izweski understands that if High Priest Unzi were to secure prestige and power from a second successful Iron Crusade, he would effectively dwarf the power of the Izweski dynasty. Not'zar Izweski, attempting to avoid the mistake of the Iron Crusade, is undermining the Church and showing that he still has power over it.
