Courts and Penal System
Heavily reliant on megacorporations, the Republic of Biesel's justice system is considered one of the more flippant across the Orion Spur, with the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate subjecting the Courts to its power - oftentimes unfairly. It is not uncommon to find that those charged with corporate espionage or acts of corporate terrorism (or really anything deemed anti-corporate) imprisoned on circumstantial evidence - provided of course by the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate. The Republican courts operate through a panel of three, referred to as the Magistrate's Tribunal, in both civil and criminal cases - additionally, the Magistrate's Tribunal consults with a Corporate Legal Counselor, a position filled by those selected by the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate, who will review the findings of the Magistrate's Tribunal before their ruling in order to ensure it aligns with precedence previously set within the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate.
The Republican Penal System is entirely operated by the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate and its affiliates, Zavodskoi Interstellar having the largest influence, housing more than half of the Republic's "guilty" within their private penitentiaries. Zavodskoi Interstellar was awarded the monopoly on the Republic of Biesel's shortly after its independence, showing off its reward through constructing the largest incarceration station across the Orion Spur in orbit of Reade - the Violet Rose Penal Site. There have been claims of poor conditions within the Violet Rose Penal Site, however, multiple independent inquiries conducted by the Republic of Biesel have asserted that such claims are incorrect and that the Violet Rose Penal Site is equipped to the standards set by the Republic. The Violet Rose Penal Site also outputs a significant amount of industrial might, with the majority of its incarcerated fulfilling quotas set by Zavodskoi Interstellar in a programme referred to as "Work Rehabilitation Initiative" - enabling convict labour.
