Refugees
The Republic of Biesel’s bureaucratic offices nearly came to a stop during the events of Warbling : The Traverse Strikes Back! after hundreds of thousands fled the fringes of the Nralakk Federation after the deployment of the Kala. It was later revealed that a growing minority of the refugees pledged allegiance to the Resistance, and the deployment of the Kala was an attempt to thwart their plots against the Nralakk Federation -- unfortunately, the efforts were unsuccessful and the Nralakk Federation Embassy was bombed, tragically claiming a dozen lives. The unforeseen deployment of the Kala resulted in quite a panic among those that were fleeing with many only able to take the clothes on their backs and resulted in many families being torn apart during the hysteria. Many of these families and refugees found homes within Mendell City's District 8; now referred to as the Starlight Zone.
Megacorporations
In an attempt to make the situation advantageous, the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate cooperated with the Republic of Biesel by incorporating a much easier process for refugees to find employment within their bureaucratic processes, resulting in a large number of those awarded asylum bound by corporate contracts. No singular megacorporation took hold of the refugees, and most are noted to be quite evenly distributed among those beneath the banner of the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate. Rumours continue to circulate about proposals utilizing the refugees in the Corporate Reconstruction Zone, due to the majority of their skills revolving around colony maintenance and expansion.
Detention Centres
The abrupt arrival of thousands left the Republic of Biesel scrambling to deal with the situation, with many of the first waves of refugees being subjected to a stay within detention centres across Tau Ceti. While it largely depends on which centres an individual was allocated to, the general consensus from those that were committed describe their experiences as being detestable. Overcrowding, missed meals and mistreatment are a few terms being thrown around by those that were held in these facilities during the first few weeks of their arrival to the Republic of Biesel.
Fylaki Holding Grounds
The Fylaki Holding Grounds is a hastily constructed detention centre designed to help ease the overcrowding happening in other facilities. It is a fenced-in containment site hedged in by the Southern Uratines Mountain Range on Biesel. It heavily utilizes canopies and tents to provide shelter for those held within the facility, however, as more and more refugees began to arrive it fell prey to overcrowding. It quickly fell into deplorable circumstances. Those leaving strongly criticize the corruption, overcrowding and overall abuse of detainees that occurs at the facility.
Aztai Detention Facilities
The only centre for undocumented refugees on New Gibson, the Aztai Detention Facilities are a series of mini-domes constructed within the wastelands of the arctic planet and was established shortly after the introduction of Dionae. Due to its surrounding environment, its overall conditions are closely monitored. Those sent to these facilities were often said to be the “lucky” ones, as problems such as overcrowding and mistreatment experienced in other detention centres are notably absent from the Aztai Detention Facilities.
Tau Ceti Foreign Legion
After several weeks of deliberation, it was ultimately decided that those fleeing the Nralakk Federation would be granted asylum only upon their enlistment into the Tau Ceti Foreign Legion. Overnight, the number of those enlisted grew drastically, with Skrell outnumbering other species in a ratio of about 2:1 nearly. Many have begun to wonder how this will impact the Tau Ceti Foreign Legion's future and its engagement tactics. Depending on the enlisted's skill, they were further divided into either Medical, Engineering or Basic Volunteer Divisions.
